If you like the design of natural pools/ponds, look at my channel!!
Beautiful natural swimming pools from gartenART-Australia!!! A company with
a german director with high-level skill and motivation.
This is so cool! Absolutely amazing! 🙂
the papyrus are beautiful
@kingdomofwitches you keep a filter and its lined so smelly bacteria
doesn’t have a chance to go. If you keep it clean it doesn’t get nasty.
Even a fish pond won’t stink if you keep it clean.
@FiestyCat86 you are right ,you are talking about a garden pond with pond
filter ie a maintained pond.but here they are talking about a pond that is
not maintained or least maintained.filled with wild life (sounds great but
what are its contents toads, worms, dense clusters of algae and dead plant
leaves).some thing natural rather artificially maintained.frogs screams
during mating season, smells bad because of rotten leaves, green water
because of algae.these are some disadvantages .
now I l know what todo with that nasty eyesore inmy backyard
Ah, the greens wanting to take another amenity in the name of the
“environment.” What a surprise. If you don’t want the responsibility of
taking care of a pool, don’t buy a house with one. You’ll be happier
without the extra work. But then, ponds require maintenance, filtration,
and electricity, too–it’s like an aquarium outdoors. I love ponds as much
as the next guy, but when it’s 118 degrees out and 5% humidity, I’ll take
my swimming pool over a pond, thanks.
This is an oversimplification. Cost is nothing, really? I suppose all those
plants in the pond are free? And it needs a waterfall if not the water
stagnates and STINKS. Granted waterfall pumps are less amps than a 240v
pool motor but still uses electricity. I’ve been spending the last year
converting the pool into a pond and now it’s just about ready for fish.
Now, the upsides…. I like the wildlife, the frogs and toads and
dragonflies.
Thats a dirty mess. uck
These comments saying the ponds STINK and they need FILTRATION are untrue.
I decided enough with never used expensively run swimming pool, turned off
the pump and let nature take it’s course. Yes, there is an unpleasant odour
for the first month ONLY and then all the algae converts to dispel the
gases which cause it. The pool is set in sandstone with an overhanging moon
tree. I’m presently filling with lotus etc. Frogs kicking off EVERYWHERE
here when it rains. And elec bill HALVED.
And that’s what those bundles of ordinary HAY they sell in fish pond shops
are for. No need for an electric filter.
i am not talking about running a pool filtration system.every pond needs
some kind of maintainence.some frequent once in six months some once in 2
years.pond maintance depends upon contry to country, the amount of sunlight
it receives and the volume of matter collected at the bottom of the
pond.there is no such thing called maintance free pond.
About the only thing that is legal in Australia!
No… it’s natural, and much much healthier to swim in. In fact you add a
aquaponics system to it. When’s the last time you swam in the river?
Try adding some bottom feeding fish
we have tried this with our 40.000 litre fibreglass pool. we have put in
plants and turned off filter, but it has turned more than green but looks
like pea soup, long strands of algae. the fish people said we need to have
the water running to oxygenate the pool for the fish to live. what are we
doing wrong. the fish died.
what species are bottom feeding fish?
I have done what they said in the video but no luck, water like pea soup, I
am going back to a pool as it cost money for plants etc and still no pond,
only a smelly green slimy mess. the video does not explain in detail how to
do this.
A fish that will eat things off the bottom is definitely catfish. There’s
also a fish named Hypostomus plecostomus that just eats algae and will keep
it clean that way. Hope this helps!
The best way though is to add a filtration system and I highly recommend
that.
Where there is a will theres a way, Im about to embark on turning my old
pool into a pond. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience, reminded
me to cover all bases and do the necessary research.
If you are planning on turning your pool into a pond you could have a look
at a number of other videos on the ENVIROTUBE channel or ring the expert,
Peter Clarke, his contact details are at the end of 95% of the Envirotube
videos. Great to see there is interest out there.
Hi sis gold. There are quite a few other videos on the subject of turning
your pool into a pond on our Envirotube channel. Peter Clarke’s contact
details are on all those videos. It’s an environmental branch of a
government body so no one is out to make money. Advise is free.
Could I cast net in my pool at any point?
